Ingrid’s First Flat
Ingrid's new flat
Ingrid is going to live on her own for the first time!
Ingrid usually loves contemplating the size of the universe especially while doing her weekly shop at Lidl. But right now, the universe doesn’t seem much bigger than Brighton.
One bedroom or two? In the city centre? Seafront? Near a park? Near the train station? Near a bus stop? Near the moon? These are the kinds of questions going through her brain.
There is only one thing she is sure of: she is going to move. Yes, Ingrid is going to live on her own for the first time and it is very exciting! But, at the same time, it is nerve-wracking. What if she can’t find anything she likes?
She knows she has a lot to consider. Budget is number one with a bullet on her list. She has to remember it is not just the price of rent, but she also had to think about bills, council tax, TV license, broadband… and, of course, the cost of moving. “It feels like I will have to pay just to breathe!”, Ingrid thought.
Then there is location. She couldn’t decide what her favourite neighbourhood in Brighton is. She just knows she wants to be somewhere lively, with good transport links. She likes being close to the action! But not too close, though. She still wants to be able to sleep at night.
And so Ingrid looked through flat listings online. Rightmove, Zoopla, Prime Location and even Gumtree: she checked them all. On a daily basis. She decided to go on as many viewings as possible in a short amount of time. She thought that was the best way to get a feel for what was out there.
She tried to keep an eye out for anything that could be a dealbreaker: she locked and unlocked doors and windows; she opened taps and flushed toilets; she checked for mould and infiltrations; she made sure the central heating worked. It was exhausting just trying to remember everything!
She saw several flats. Some where she could totally imagine herself living, some that looked very different from the advert, some that just seemed too far from everything… and one where she felt at home.
Lucky Ingrid, the landlord likes her, so she got the flat she wanted! Even better: she can move in fairly quickly! The landlord got the paperwork ready and she signed the lease just a few days later. She was so happy when she got her keys!
Now it is time for the fun part: furnishing her new place. She can’t wait to bring her things over, buy some furniture and have the place looking like her. She just knows this is what she will be daydreaming about on her next trip to Lidl.
